Joy Zabala, M.Ed., ATP

Independent Professional Developer and Consultant

Dr. Joy Zabala is a general and special educator who currently serves as a professional developer and consultant in assistive technology and leadership across the nation and abroad. Joy is the developer of the SETT Framework, a concerns identification and solution-seeking process that supports collaboration decision-making by teams of students, parents, and multi-disciplinary professionals.

Joy is a founding member of the QIAT Consortium and serves as the facilitator of The QIAT List (http://www.qiat.org). She is an active member of the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC), currently serving as president of the Technology and Media Division (TAM) and co-chair (with Chauncy Rucker) of the Technology Desk of the International Division (DICES). She is also on boards of the Alliance for Technology Access (ATA) and the European Schools Project Association.

Joy earned a Bachelor of Education. in elementary and early childhood education at the University of Florida, a Master of Education in curriculum and instruction for early childhood from Florida Atlantic University, and a Doctor of Education in special education personnel preparation at the University of Kentucky. She shares her Texas home with Adrian, her husband of 40 years, and Calpurnia Puglet, a rambunctious black pug. She and Adrian are the parents of two wonderful daughters, Gaye and Adriana, and the grandparents of Amanda, Jacob, and Sophie.
